How to Use Essential Oils?

In this blog post we’ll share the ways you can use essential oils. Essential oils are commonly used to relieve stress, improve mood, relieve pain from headaches, improve sleep, reduce nausea, and even repel insects. We’ve made it quick and convenient for you to reference a few application methods for essential oil.

Inhalation

Inhalation is the safest way for using essential oils, this practice is also known as aromatherapy. When inhaled, odor molecules in essential oils are believed to affect the neurological system and the limbic area of the brain, as well as hormones, brain chemicals, and metabolism.

Diffuser has been popular used to breath in essential oil. If you don't have a diffuser with you, pour few drops of oils into a cup of hot water and then inhale. The aroma will spread into your room just in a few minutes.

Topical Use

Essential oils sometimes are applied directly to the skin to treat pain in a specific body part to relieve backache, ease sore muscles or relieve sinus pain.

Most essential oils like Tea Tree, Eucalyptus, Frankincense etc also have antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties. They may be used topically for acne or fungal infections.

Essential oils are also used during massage and spa treatments. Aromatherapy massages are shown to be very therapeutic as well.

However, essential oils are potent and heavily concentrated to apply directly to the skin without dilution, which may cause irritation reaction. Essential oils should be diluted in a carrier oil such as grape seed oil or jojoba oil. When applying a new essential oil, always test on a small patch of skin first before applying to a larger area.

Cleaning and Purifying

Essential oils are a natural, safe and non-toxic way of cleaning that’s safe for the whole family. For example Lemon breaks down stubborn grease while leaving a nature citrus scent in your kitchen. Tea Tree as a natural astringent can be used to toilet seats, faucets, door knobs, kitchen sinks, countertops, etc. Adding 3 to 5 drops of lavender essential oils into washing machine when cleaning your linens or spray on it with distilled water can add a relaxing scent that reduce stress and induce sleep. Cypress, cedarwood and sandalwood fight mold and fungi as well as getting rid of musty smells in your home.

Cosmetic & Natural Fragrance

Essential oils are also perfect to add into soap, lotion, shampoo, bath salts, and other products for therapeutic or natural fragrance effects.

If you are wearing face masks, add a few drop onto the external layer of fabric mask can help to ease breathing and bring you a pleasant aroma. It is NOT recommended to directly pour essential oil on a medical mask as the middle layer of a surgical type facemask could melt when in contact with essential oils, and this would reduce the mask's functionality for filtering viruses and other microbes.
